So grateful this place survived Covid and is still open. Just love the food. Really exceptional. Picked up a to-go order tonight. It never disappoints! I love the yellow curry, the fresh basil rolls with plum sauce, and the New York sushi roll. But everything is good!
Overview
Walking into Lemon Grass for the first time felt like a small reset button for my taste buds. Tucked along 912 W Lamar Alexander Pkwy, Maryville, TN 37801, United States, this diner-style spot blends the comfort of a neighborhood restaurant with flavors that lean fresh, bright, and intentional. I stopped by on a busy weekday lunch, and even with a steady flow of regulars, the service stayed relaxed and personal, the kind where servers remember orders and actually ask how your meal turned out.
The menu reads clean and confident, with dishes built around herbs, citrus, and balanced seasoning rather than heavy sauces. Lemongrass, basil, and ginger show up often, and thatβs not just for aroma. According to research published by the USDA and food science journals, lemongrass contains natural antioxidants and compounds linked to digestion support, which explains why meals here feel filling without being heavy. One server explained how they prep their broths early each morning, simmering herbs slowly to extract flavor instead of relying on shortcuts. That process shows up in the depth of taste, especially in the soups and noodle bowls.
During one visit, I ordered a grilled chicken plate paired with jasmine rice and a citrus-forward sauce. The chicken was marinated long enough to stay juicy, and the flavors stayed layered rather than overpowering. A friend went with a vegetarian option featuring tofu and seasonal vegetables, and the kitchen adjusted spice levels on request without hesitation. That flexibility matters, especially for diners with dietary preferences. Reviews from local patrons often mention consistency, and from my experience across multiple visits, that reputation holds up.
One thing that stands out is how the restaurant balances speed with care. Orders come out promptly, but nothing feels rushed. I watched the kitchen staff check plating before sending dishes out, which lines up with what culinary institutes like the Culinary Institute of America emphasize about presentation influencing perceived taste. Itβs a small detail, yet it elevates the entire meal.
The location itself makes Lemon Grass easy to revisit. Sitting right off Lamar Alexander Parkway, itβs convenient for locals and travelers passing through Maryville. Parking is straightforward, and the dining room stays comfortable even during peak hours. The atmosphere isnβt trying to be trendy; instead, it feels lived-in and welcoming. That authenticity is probably why online reviews consistently highlight friendliness and reliability over hype.
One regular at the next table mentioned they stop in weekly because the menu rotates subtly with seasonal ingredients. That approach reduces waste and keeps flavors fresh, a method supported by sustainability guidelines from organizations like the National Restaurant Association. While the restaurant doesnβt claim to be perfect, the staff is open about limitations, like occasional ingredient shortages during peak seasons, and theyβre upfront when substitutions are needed.
Conversations with the team revealed pride in their process. Sauces are made in-house, proteins are sourced from trusted suppliers, and spice blends are adjusted based on customer feedback. That loop between kitchen and diner builds trust. From a personal standpoint, Iβve brought visiting family here more than once because I know the experience will be consistent, approachable, and satisfying.
By the time plates are cleared, itβs easy to see why Lemon Grass has carved out a loyal following in Maryville. The food respects tradition while staying flexible, the service feels human, and the menu offers enough variety to keep things interesting without overwhelming choices. For anyone scanning reviews or looking for a dependable place to eat along 912 W Lamar Alexander Pkwy, this diner earns its reputation through steady quality rather than flashy promises.

Coming from Asia, I tempered my expectations when visiting but was pleasantly surprised by the service and food at this place. My family ordered the chicken fried rice (chicken a little overcooked), red curry chicken, and lunch special (yellow curry). The portions were generous and the flavor was good. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. Clean bathrooms. Would definitely go back!
Staff are always pleasant and attentive. I love the sushi menu. It has a ton of options and everything I've tried has been amazing. The Thai menu is just as good, which makes it hard to narrow down what you want. I definitely recommend ordering to share, because you'll want to try everything!
This is an awesome Thai place. I have been coming here for 18 years and just love the food
We had not eaten here in years. Food was very good though they were out of 3 things we ordered... and in my sweet potato tempura roll the sweet potato was so raw it was crunchy of of that rather than the fact it was tempura fried... server was good and atmosphere was too cold and kind of blah...
Solid place. Online ordering is challenging and will not take any requests such as, "No carrots please." if you type it. I suggest calling and speaking to someone.
I really love this place but this has happened multiple times. When I put in special request for something not to be Styrofoam, they always put it in Styrofoam anyways. One reason I don't want it in Styrofoam is because when the hot fried food hits the Styrofoam it melts the Styrofoam. Which 1 does make the food taste like Styrofoam but also makes feel like I'm ingesting micro plastics which is not good for me either.
